Bruce Bales, President & CEO, ArdaCOM. Bruce has been a leader in the voice and data communications industry for over 28 years, gaining experience in many technical areas, industry segments and customer sets and holding several senior executive positions. He is currently President and CEO of ArdaCOM, an exciting new entrant into the mobile applications space. He previously served as President of the messaging business at Glenayre Technologies (NASDAQ:GEMS) prior to its sale to private investors. Bruce was Vice President, Marketing, at Strategic Alliance WorldGroup, served as General Manager of Lucent Technologies’ Network IVR business and as Senior Director of Lucent/Octel’s voice messaging business. He had an illustrious technical career with Bell Laboratories and Western Electric, which included being granted 36 U.S. Patents in various networking and communications disciplines.
Maria Burud, President, Zanon Group. Maria brings over 20 years of experience in the professional services and technology industry, predominantly dedicated to sales and marketing. At Zanon, Maria creates custom, systematized programs designed to help companies grow revenues, create more strategic relationships, and develop their people into high quality execution oriented, differentiated teams. Prior to Zanon, Maria ran Worldwide Sales at Placeware, Inc. a privately held Silicon Valley start up, doubling revenues to $50 million in the year prior to an acquisition by Microsoft in 2003. Maria also held several positions as Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Infinium Software, formerly a $122 million publicly traded NASDAQ company (INFM), acquired by Chicago based SSA Global in December 2003. Prior to Infinium, Maria held various sales and implementation positions at Automatic Data Processing (ADP) over a four-year period. Burud earned a bachelors degree in Marketing from Loyola University of Chicago. Burud sits on multiple advisory boards, chairs the Sales Roundtable for the ITA (Illinois Information Technology Association) and is active in several academic and not for profit organizations, including the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and Entrepreneurial Center and the Woman’s Business Development Center of Chicago.
Jim Goetz, Senior VP and CIO, Convergys Corporation. Jim is responsible for the enterprise-wide development and implementation of the company's information technology. Jim leads a world-wide technology team that develops relationship management, workforce management, and infrastructure capabilities for Convergys operations around the world. Convergys Corporation (NYSE: CVG) is a global leader in relationship management supporting clients in 70 countries and 35 languages, with approximately 75,000 employees in 87 customer contact centers. Prior to Convergys, Jim was CIO of ServiceMaster where he helped transform the customer experience and simplify the field operations of America's leading service brands. Prior to joining ServiceMaster, he was Director of Internet Services at IBM Global Services where he led the development of internet service lines in partnership with the telecommunications industry. He played a leadership role in major outsourcing relationships. Before working at IBM Global Services, Jim held various vice president level positions at Ameritech, where he developed a new managed service business. He also served as the VP of Information Technology at Ameritech.
Arun Sobti, Chairman of the Board, Movius. Arun is seasoned executive with over 30 years of technical and management leadership in the communications infrastructure industry, Dr. Sobti possesses a wealth of expertise in shaping, building, and managing companies. His visionary leadership, complemented by energy and drive, has earned him a well-deserved reputation as an innovator who gets results. Prior to Movius, Dr. Sobti was senior vice president of ADC and president of ADC's Broadband Access and Transport Group (BATG). BATG was comprised of the Broadband Communications Division (BCD), Broadband Wireless Group (BWG), Access Products Division (APD), Cable Access Systems Division (CASD), Transport Systems Division (TSD), and the Teledata Division. Dr. Sobti's responsibilities included managing operations, engineering, and sales and marketing initiatives. Under his leadership ADC purchased Pairgain Technologies and Broadband Access Systems, their largest acquisitions to date. Dr. Sobti was also at Motorola for 24 years, where he ran a number of their businesses and led Motorola's participation in the third generation of wireless. Dr. Sobti holds eighteen patents and has served on a variety of industry standards committees. He is on several boards and also teaches in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of Kansas, where he earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in electrical engineering. He received his B.S. in engineering from Punjab Engineering College in India.
Darrell Williams, Founder and Managing Member, DuSable Capital LLC. DuSable Capital LLC is a financial investment and advisory practice targeting growth oriented companies and the organizations (private equity funds, business development groups, etc.) that support them. Through DuSable, Darrell seeks opportunities for direct investment in business services companies, with particular interest in communications. He also executes advisory assignments for clients seeking to acquire or divest businesses, establish internal and external financial reporting infrastructure, raise new capital, rebalance or realign corporate capital structures, align capital structures to strategic objectives, or effectively address increasingly complex corporate strategy and governance requirements. Prior to founding DuSable, Darrell was Chief Investment Officer of the Washington DC based Telecommunications Development Fund (“TDF”). There, Darrell established an early-stage communications focused investment strategy and led a staff of four investment professionals in the execution and management of ten start-up investments. Darrell came to TDF from Ameritech Development Corporation (“ADC”), a subsidiary organization that executed strategic investment, acquisition and divestiture services on behalf of its parent company Ameritech Corporation. As Vice President of Venture Capital, he executed, managed and successfully liquidated early stage venture capital investments in a diverse array of nascent telecom-related businesses. Prior to joining ADC, Darrell worked in the Mergers & Acquisitions Department at the First National Bank of Chicago. There, he executed middle market M&A assignments in a wide range of industries including food ingredients, plastic injection molding and packaging. Darrell has served on the boards of directors of 12 companies, developing an intimate understanding of and familiarity with the business execution, human resource, strategic, governance and capital issues facing both emerging and established businesses.
